What is entity SEO?
Entity SEO is the practice of making a business recognizable as one distinct, verifiable thing — an “entity,” the sense Google’s Knowledge Graph and large language models both use — rather than a collection of pages that happen to rank. How do you check if your business is already a recognized entity?
Three checks, in the order they’re fastest to run:
- Search the exact brand name on Google. A Knowledge Panel appearing on the right confirms Google has already resolved the business to an entity. No panel doesn’t mean failure — most small local businesses never get one — but it rules out claiming or correcting one that doesn’t exist yet. Google’s own help documentation describes panels as automatically generated, with eligible entities able to claim and suggest edits to an existing one; it doesn’t describe a way to request a new one.
- View the page source and find the Organization or LocalBusiness JSON-LD block. Confirm the name matches the title tag exactly, and that

What’s the fastest way to build entity signals?
In order of cost to fix:
- Pick one name and use it identically in the title tag,

sameAs, not just the ones linked in the page footer. A profile that exists but isn’t declared in schema does none of the disambiguation work it could. - Publish a company registration number, and a VAT number if applicable.
